Capitola Faye Ransom Sanchez, beloved wife and mother, passed away on April 8th, 2024, in Baton Rouge at the age of 81. She was born February 1st, 1943, in Morganza, Louisiana and was preceded in death by her parents Floyd A and Capitola Ransom and infant son, James Brenton Sanchez. Faye is survived by her husband of 62 years John H Sanchez Jr., her son John Barret Sanchez and his husband Michael Sajdyk and son James Scott Sanchez, as well as other family members and friends.
Faye was a woman of many talents and adventures. Faye's love for sewing grew from a young age when her mother began teaching her the art. She spent hours creating beautiful garments and costumes, which led her to open her own business, A Stitch in Time. For over 25 years, she brought joy and beauty to her customers with her precise stitches and creative designs for dance and Mardi Gras costumes as well as wedding and ball gowns. Beyond her talent for sewing, she also had a thirst for adventure and a love for travel. Together with her husband of 62 years, John, they explored the US and Europe, making unforgettable memories along the way with friends and family.
Being a long-standing resident of Baton Rouge, Faye was a member of the Iduna Mardi Gras Krewe and continued to find ways to celebrate life's moments. Later in life, Faye found a new passion as a casino dealer. For 20 years, she dazzled with her card skills and mastery of the chips.
Faye’s love wasn't limited to just humans; she had a soft spot for animals too. Her pet squirrel "Killer" and the many cats and dogs she welcomed into her home were a testament to her caring nature. Her green thumb was unmatched, and her garden was a sight to behold as she could grow just about anything.
Even as she grew older, Faye never lost her sense of adventure. Together with her husband, they embarked on new journeys in his beloved 1957 Chevy. Faye loved to tell the story of "Mr. Bones," the skeleton that always rode in the backseat and became a staple in their travels.
Capitola Faye Ransom Sanchez will always be remembered as a woman who lived life to the fullest. Her love for adventure and her talent for creating beauty will never be forgotten. She was a shining example of a life well-lived, and one that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A memorial visitation for Faye will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rabenhorst Funeral Home & Crematory East, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815.
