Calvin Clyde Long, 84, a resident of Sherwood Manor Nursing Home, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was born in Melville and resided in Baton Rouge for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith, a 32nd degree Mason, member of Fairfields Lodge 425 for more than 60 years and a charter member of Myrtle Celeste Chapter 231 of OES. He retired from Millwright Local 720 and was an apprenticeship instructor at the trade school for many years. Survived by his daughters, Pam Long Browning and husband Robert, and Dona Long Meyers; son, Billy Gene Long and wife Linda; sister, Mona Gayle Branum; brother, Derle Gene Long and wife Lorena; sister-in-law, Betty Long; brother-in-law, Kenneth Williams; grandchildren, Kristy Aucoin Poche, Kevin Austin, Shari Spillman Parker, Ashley Browning Watson, Trish Browning, Laurie Long Holguin, Amanda Long Morrow and Hanna Long Sedatole; and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Marvin M. and Irma Berneice Long; brother, M.B. Long; sister, Gloria Long Williams; brother-in-law, J.W. Branum; son-in-law, Lionel J. Meyers Sr.; grandson, Scott Tracy Spillman; and great-granddaughter, Payton Guerin. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. until memorial service at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
