Brenda Joyce Hamilton Butler, entered the world January 16, 1950, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Washington and Mary Sue Hamilton. She was the fifth child born into this strong family of six children. As a young woman, Brenda was baptized at Donaldson Chapel Baptist Church by the late Reverend Charles T. Smith. She received her education in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, graduating in 1968, from Capitol Sr. High School.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Brenda was united in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart, Albert Butler, Sr., on September 14, 1968 which created a union for 46 years until Albert’s passing. The couple was blessed with three children: Aldrika, Catina and Albert Jr.
Brenda was blessed beyond favor. She lived a life that was pleasing unto God; always providing for the needs of her family, extremely protective of her children, compassionate to those in need, ever ready with a listening ear, and was a cheerful giver of her time, energy, efforts, and resources.
Professionally, upon graduating high school, Brenda did what others told her she could not; by attending and graduating from nursing school where she became a licensed practical nurse. She worked countless hours sharpening her skills and growing in experience in hospitals, doctors’ offices, as a private duty nurse and lastly, as home health nurse.
Brenda was filled with an entrepreneurial spirit and knew she was chosen to be a business owner. With her experience gained in nursing, in 1992, Brenda, along with her business partner, founded Direct Care Home Health Services, Inc. one of the most predominant home health care services in Louisiana. At its highest of success, the company employed over 200 employees, with four offices throughout southern Louisiana. Over the coming years, Brenda would lead the company to revenue growth, create jobs, spearhead volunteer efforts, and become a staple in the community. After 10 years, she divested her interest in Direct Care and began several other business ventures from retail to physical therapy clinics and then several real estate investments.
Devoted to her family, Brenda was always concerned about their well-being. She loved family gatherings and spending time with her friends. She was genuinely interested in her children’s lives and reveled in their accomplishments.
To her children and grandchildren, she always encouraged them to become successful and grounded in the word of the Lord.
Brenda made her love for the Lord known with a very visible relationship with God. She enjoyed attending church service and praise and worship. Decorating for Christmas was a true passion along with having many social events for the holidays and birthdays. She spent her free time reading the word; coloring, going to football games, giving others words of encouragement, helping anyone she could in need, seeing others have an elaborate time, and indulging her grandchildren.
After a lengthy battle with diabetes which progressed into renal failure, Brenda’s life’s work on this side of heaven was done; God was ready for his faithful servant to come home.
While surrounded by her children, she closed her eyes for the last time here on earth on September 18, 2022 at 9:30 pm at Clarity at The Crossing Hospice Care Facility.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Albert L. (Ketreaus) Butler, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Aldrika (Barrion) Boyle of Atlanta, GA and Catina (Timothy III) Flowers of Baton Rouge; grandchildren; Gabrielle, Barrion Jr., and Madison Boyle; Alexis(Justin)Brumfield, Tarell and Katelyn Flowers; Albert Butler, III, Alexa, Ariel, and Aja Butler; two great grandchildren, Isaiah and Ava Brumfield; a brother, Washington Hamilton; a sister, Marguerite Davis and a multitude of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Butler, Sr., her parents, Washington, Sr. and Mary Hamilton; three sisters, Yvonne Hamilton, Louise Collins, and Mary Heard; and one granddaughter, Jewel Boyle.
