Bonnie N. Rosenthal, MSN, APRN, NGNP-C, passed away on April 10, 2023 at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, and laughter. Bonnie was born in Bunkie, LA on September 13, 1956 to Robert Brock "R.B." and Alice Rae Nunnery.
Bonnie was a graduate of South Pike High School in Magnolia, MS where she played basketball for the Eagle's under the coaching of the late Dutch Nichols, where her team was invited to play in a women's basketball circuit across Europe. She graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Music Education as a Piano Major and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1983. Her passion for helping others led her to advance her studies, and she attended South University, where she achieved a Master's degree, graduating as an Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner in 2016.
Bonnie’s career as a Registered Nurse allowed her to fulfill her passion for adventure as she traveled in various states including: Hawaii, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Michigan. She shared both art and science through her heart, which reflected a respect for human dignity and an intuition for patient's needs, along with her highly specialized skills and expertise. It was very important for her to experience different cultures and serve her community. Bonnie’s career highlights include working with critically ill patients in intensive care units, wound care, infection control, employee health, and primary care. She was currently employed with Optum, formally known as Landmark Health, where she provided in-home medical care to geriatric patients living with chronic conditions. Her committed desire to serve the local community and the love and care she exhibited to others was evident over the 40 years she served as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner.
Bonnie was a notorious piano player that made a joyful sound to the Lord with all her heart. Not only did she unconditionally love her family and friends, but she taught her magnificent family to be beautiful, smart, and strong. She was known as “Sweetie” by her precious granddaughters. She was always found knitting various scarfs and hats, putting love in every stitch. Her love of the salty air, warm sun, and crystal blue water at Anna Maria Beach, FL was her happy place and where she would get her best dose of "Vitamin Sea". But it was her passion of music and playing the piano that moved every fiber of her being - especially when she listened to Andrea Bocelli. Her affection for LSU began at a young age, where she celebrated her father's contribution to LSU Football as a right tackle all-time letterwinner, and instilled the admiration of purple and gold into her life ever since; GEAUX TIGERS!
Bonnie was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Magnolia, MS, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and the Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners (MANP).
Bonnie will be deeply missed and her memory remembered by, her daughter, Toby Rae Rosenthal; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jacob and Brittany Rosenthal; and her precious granddaughters, Charleigh Renae and Everleigh Rae Rosenthal. She is preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Jameson Alexander Rosenthal.
A memorial gathering will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Visitation will be held from 2pm - 3pm, following her Celebration of Life Memorial from 3pm - 4pm. The family would like to thank Nicolaas Simonis of Transition Support Services Inc., the Pike family, and Galilee Baptist Church for their love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family to help with funeral and burial expenses (a GoFundMe link is available on her memorial page).
