Betty Kowis Rome, native of Houston, Texas and resident of Baton Rouge, LA. passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the age of 74. Betty worked as a postal clerk for 26 years. She was a member of various organizations such as LA. Association of the Deaf, Catholic International Deaf Association, and National Fraternal Association of the Deaf. Betty was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her. “ Your mother was such a beautiful example of love and commitment to her faith.” Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, who is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond J. Rome, Sr.; daughters, Barbara Rome Miller and husband, Michael Miller, Sr. and Teresa Rome Garrett and husband Mark Garrett; sons, Raymond J. Rome, Jr. and wife Anne Rome and Joseph P. Rome and wife Judy Rome; grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller, Michael Miller, Jr., Rachael Miller, Jenna Rome McLin and Dustin McLin, Kelsey Rome, Justin Rome, Taylor Garrett, Emily Garrett, and Evan Garrett; great grandchildren, Jackson Lee McLin and Ethan Hughes McLin; and sister, Eileen Foster. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Regina Kowis; daughter, Patricia Rome Riley; and brothers Albert Kowis and Martin Kowis. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and aids at Old Jefferson Community Care Center and Hospice In His Care especially Alicia. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, La. 70815, on Monday, May 25, 2015 from 5pm-9pm with the rosary at 7pm which will be recited by Ronald Rome, Sr. and interpreted by Donna Davis. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Boulevard Baton Rouge, La. 70802, at 10am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11pm conducted by Father Vincent Dufresne.
