Known as Miss Betty or simply “Betty”, she was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. Betty was a remarkable cook, wedding cake decorator and enjoyed catering and preparing meals for her family and friends. Betty was a Christian with a servants’ heart. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. For many years leading up to her passing she enjoyed her friends and family, her dogs, fishing, and gardening. She was a dedicated LSU sports fan and enjoyed attending many events. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Peter A. Costello, where they met during WWII at Fort Benning, GA. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Gunter; daughters, Cheryl D. Costello and Janelle R. Costello; granddaughter, Ashley B. Costello; and her beloved siblings, James, Francis, Charles Jr., Jack and Robert.
She is survived by her son, Terry W. Costello and his wife Danielle of Merry Hill, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kip and Joannah Hillebrandt, and Derek, Nicholas and Grant Costello; and four great-grandchildren, Bethany and Makayla Hillebrandt, and Nathan and Sophie Costello.
Old Jefferson Community Center lovingly cared for Betty during the last 6 years of her life. Hospice of Baton Rouge also provided assistance with her care in recent months. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Betty their sincere appreciation and warmest gratitude.
Family and friends are invited to join for a visitation on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 AM followed by a funeral service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge and Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Baton Rouge.
