Betty "Betsy" Bagwell Cohen

On Friday, January 7, 2022, "Betsy" was taken from the many who loved her. Above all, she was a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother whose love, passion, and commitment to her family rivaled even that of the most ferocious "mama bear." Betsy's career was her family. Betsy was born in St. Louis, MO, on August 28, 1945, and her family moved to Baton Rouge, LA, in June of 1957. She attended Westdale Jr. High, where she first met her husband of 57 years, T. David. Betsy graduated from Broadmoor High School in 1963. Betsy's love of animals was second only to her commitment to her family. She was quick to nurture and care for any stray that came her way. Her "cateroonies”, Baby and Little One were rescues. During happier times, Betsy spent many evenings together with her "pal" Bentley, the dog, sharing banana popsicles or McDonald's fries and lots of "kisses." Betsy leaves behind her husband, T. David Cohen; daughter, Kimberly Landacre and her husband, Kent; son, David, Jr. and his wife, Marci; grandchildren, Kent Landacre, Jr. and his wife, Jenna, Kameron Landacre, Jordan Cohen, Chelsea Downey and her husband, T. J., Bryson Cohen, John Pratt, Isabella Pratt; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Baumann and Aubrey Landacre; sisters, Virginia Wilkins, Nancy Neal, and husband Norman and Peggy Sheets; and a host of other loving family members and friends. Betsy is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Lucille Bagwell; and sister, Mary Blum. All those who knew Betsy loved her, and her passing will leave a profound sadness in many hearts. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 10:00am until the time of funeral services at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
