"A native of Shreveport, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA for the past 10 years, Bess passed away on Saturday, August the 26, 2017 at the age of 103. She started the Bess McBride Dance Studio in Shreveport at the age of 16, and later was the founder and director of the Louisiana Concert Ballet. Bess was a former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Shreveport and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Anna Burckett; husband, J. Homer McBride; daughter, Margaret Deckard; and brother, Milton Burckett. Bess is survived by her daughter Marcia Zuber and her husband, Don; grandchildren Stuart Deckard (Amanda), Patrick Watts, Sarah "Maggie" Robe, Philip Watts (Monica), Donald Zuber (Ashley), and David Zuber (Allison); 11 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (8833 Goodwood Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, 70806) with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM, officiated by Fr. Bryan Owen. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport at a later date. Appreciation is extended to the staff of Clarity Hospice who was so kind and caring to her over the past five years. The family is also grateful for the loyal and loving attention given to "Ms. B" by her caregivers; Mary Belin, Tiffany Dunn, Anya Haynes, Candatha Haynes, Thelma Matthews, Sabrina Russ, and Gertrude Williams.
