Barbara Anne Berthelot Simoneaux (1938), a lady of life, love, and legacy, and the beautiful bride of the late Donald Simoneaux Sr. ascended peacefully in her home on November 26 where she reigned as Queen of the Castle and Domestic Goddess for over six glorious decades. She was the proud matriarch of one of South Louisiana’s largest and finest families. Her dynasty included: her late husband of 61 years; her children - Shivonne and Tommy Wren, Donald “Donnie” L. Simoneaux Jr., Jeannine and Tony Cockerham, Marc Simoneaux, Troy Simoneaux, and Kyle and Becky Simoneaux; her grandchildren - Anna Allen, John Paul Wren, Mallory Morgan, Jennifer Richard, Angelle Jeansonne, Lyle Cockerham, Madeleine Cockerham, Rachel Hunsucker, Alyssa Simoneaux and Brennan Simoneaux; and her great grandchildren, of whom there are 16. She was attended by Gana Pizzolato, Kendra Grant, and Lashonda Coco in the comfort of her home. She was an ardent foodie and chef who cherished regional cuisine and sharing boiled crabs, crawfish, and raw oysters with her family. Her other pleasures included fishing, sports, reading, laughing at herself, and appreciating the wonderment of childhood through playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A devoted, faith-filled Catholic, she was instrumental in the founding of the Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of Peace and a devoted long-time parishioner and hourly adorer at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She trusted in God, embraced what was holy, and loved what was heavenly. From Brusly High Homecoming Queen to great-grandmother of sixteen and everything in between, Barbara will we be forever cherished in the hearts and memories of her loved ones.
