Barbara Koch Joseph passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024. She was born on November 4, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Maurice Abram Joseph Jr. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Walter Koch, and her great-grandchildren, Poppy and Charlie Isbill.
Surviving her are her brothers, Lew and Robert Koch, her daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Louis Saltz, Sue and Jim Miley, Debbie and Alex Khamistos; four grandsons: Matthew Saltz, Josh Saltz, Ryan Khamistos and his wife Kristen, James Miley and his wife Macy; two granddaughters: Rachel Isbill and her husband Evan, Katie Myers and her husband Danny; three great-granddaughters: Addison, Daya, and Kya; and two great-grandsons: Mason and Bridger.
She attended Louisiana State University, where she met her husband, and together they lived in many cities across multiple states in her lifetime. She ultimately retired in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with her husband, near her children and their families.
Barbara had a long career as the Club Accountant for the Camelot Club, a longtime private club and downtown Baton Rouge institution, after serving the same role in the Camelot Club in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Barbara was an accomplished bridge player, but she enjoyed playing all kinds of card games with her children and grandchildren. Barbara was a formidable Scrabble player, but also enjoyed all kinds of games and puzzles. Along with her husband Maurice, Barbara enjoyed watching and handicapping horse races at tracks across the country. Her other hobbies and interests included listening to music, shopping for clothes, and shopping for flowers. She enjoyed gardening and maintained rose bushes for many years. Barbara enjoyed baking fudge and cookies, and she really enjoyed eating fudge and cookies!
Barbara particularly liked spending time with her family, and she was always present at birthdays, holidays, weddings, and any and all special occasions. She was a very special and fiercely loyal person, and she will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held at Liberal Synagogue Cemetery, 9665 Florida Boulevard, on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matthew and Josh Saltz, Ryan Khamistos, and James Miley, III, and grandson-in-law, Danny Myers. A reception will be held at the family’s home immediately following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
