Arthur Gibson Root, III passed away on March 5, 2018, at the age of 81. He was born on September 30, 1936, in Bogalusa, LA and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from USL in 1960 with a degree in advertising design. Arthur was a pioneer in the local advertising industry. He was the owner and proprietor of Root and Associates, Inc. from 1976 until his retirement in 1996. Arthur served on 24 different boards that ranged from The City Club of Baton Rouge to Crime Stoppers to The Better Business Bureau, The Istrouma Area Boy Scouts, The YMCA and The Baton Rouge Symphony. He received many awards including, The Pete Goldsby Award by the Advertising Club of Baton Rouge in 1980, for the highest recognition paid to an advertising professional, the Sales and Marketing Executive of the Year in 1985, presented by the Sales and Marketing Club of Baton Rouge, the National Human Services Award in 1986, presented by the National Board of Governors for the Volunteers of America and the Outstanding Recognition of Service in 2003, by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Baton Rouge. Over the years, Arthur was involved in many other community, civic and professional activities. Arthur is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jenny H. Root; daughter, Rachael Hoolahan and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Abbey Borne and husband, Matt, Paige Root, Blair Root and husband, Andrew Kennedy, Peyton Allen, Andrew Allen, Rebecca Hoolahan and Gabrielle O’Neal; brother, William Barrett Root and wife, Sarah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur G. Root, Jr. and Gladys; sons, Arthur G. Root, IV, Jay Kimball Root and Andrew Glassford Root. Visitation will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 10:00AM until the time of funeral service at 12:00PM. Greenoaks Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
