Tony passed away suddenly on Dec. 23, 2022 at his home in Many, Louisiana. Tony was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was loaned to us from God for 68 amazing years. Now the Lord has taken him home. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Cindy D’Angelo, and we can only imagine their joy of being together in heaven. Tony was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 6, 1954 to Anthony D’Angelo and Agnes Maggio D’Angelo. His education began at Parkside Grade School in Edgeware, England. Because of his father’s military career, the family moved often. Tony attended elementary schools in North Carolina and Florida. He graduated from Alexandria Senior High in 1972.
Clever and hard-working from an early age, Tony always had an angle on getting ahead. Among his early pursuits, he picked pecans, mowed grass and recycled cans to make extra money. And, he could be a bit ruthless about it, particularly if a sibling tried to move in on the pecan-picking territory at his grandmother’s house. Suggestions that hair dryers could go missing or other retaliation kept his sisters and brothers at bay. It worked, and while they rattled piggy banks, he filled a savings account.
Tony’s love for the outdoors grew during his teenage years and he spent lots of time hunting and fishing in central Louisiana including outings with his father at Toledo Bend Lake. That love never left him and would one day lead him back to a peaceful place near the water.
Tony began his career in the oil field, working on rigs until the cyclical nature of the work led him to pursue a more reliable job as a commercial electrician. He worked often in oil refineries, sometimes seven days a week for weeks at a time. The work ethic he developed as a young man served him well when it was time to become a steady provider for his family in Baton Rouge.
At retirement, the lure of the lake and persistent encouragement from sons Anthony and Blake proved too hard to resist. He sold the place in Baton Rouge and made the dream of owning a home where fishing was at his doorstep a reality. He found peace there, and created a welcoming retreat for his sons, his greatest love, to join him for fish fries, crawfish boils and time in the boat. Always an animal lover, and a dog owner much of his life, he recently expressed a desire to get a puppy. He loved the family pets, Ace, Shae and Stella - and showered them with affection.
We remember Tony for his generous and caring spirit, his quirky humor and a steady focus on doing things the right way and for the right reasons. And, while we miss him dearly, we rejoice that Tony accepted Christ as his savior and is in the presence of the Lord. We can only imagine the shimmering lakes where he now finds his peace.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Cindy Jarreau D’Angelo; parents, Anthony S. (Tony) D’Angelo and Agnes D’Angelo; maternal grandparents, Charles and Rose Maggio; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mamie D’Angelo.
He is survived by two sons, Anthony D'Angelo III, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Blake D’Angelo (Silvia) of Cleveland, Texas. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” - Timothy 4:6-8
