A resident of Baker, she died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at her daughter's residence in Zachary. She was 91, born April 28, 1919, in Plaquemine. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Wednesday, March 2, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Frank Bass, celebrant. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her 10 daughters, Ellen Babin, Montegut, Kathy Trivette and husband Tom, and Anna Laurent and husband Chad, all of Baton Rouge, Cherie Brown and husband Charlie, Jeanne Babin, Janice Browning and husband Wayne, Melanie Sullivan and husband Pat, Adrienne Riddle and husband David, all of Baker, Michelle Ory and husband Albert, Ethel, and DeEtte Staid, Zachary; four sons, Dr. John Barry Babin and wife Rita, Baton Rouge, Paul Ray Babin, Kenneth E. Babin, both of Baker, Charles E. Babin and wife Jane, Baton Rouge; four sisters, Julia Watts, St. Francisville, Sallie Nijoka, Central, and Mae Hall, Galveston; two brothers, Henry Engels, Baker, and Marionneaux Engels, Zachary; 35 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Mom's sitters, Jodi Knippers and Sharon Rutland. Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Babin Sr.; son, Thomas D. Babin Jr.; granddaughter, RitaAnne McDaniel; grandson, Kevin Babin; five brothers, Arthur, Theon "Ted," Bertram, Frederick "Fritz" and the Rev. Eugene Ray Engels; and parents, Myrtis and Joseph Arthur Engels. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Altar Society. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Baton Rouge Food Bank or Hospice of Baton Rouge, Siegen Lane.
