Ann Syrek Daniel

Born in Washington, PA, Ann passed away in her Baton Rouge home at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. The oldest daughter in a family of eight children, she went to work early to help support her family. She attended The Washington Seminary for Girls and studied business. As an avid reader, education played a big part in her life. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She was frequently seen playing golf, tennis and bridge at The Baton Rouge Country Club, where she served as president of The Women's Golf Association. One of her proudest moments was scoring a hole-in-one on #3 at the club course. She enjoyed music and played the piano by ear. Ann enjoyed cooking, especially for LSU football tailgate parties. In her later years, Ann cherished her long telephone calls with nieces, Melody Scherer, Pamela Deas, and first cousin Carol Baker. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lou W. Daniel, longtime Baton Rouge Independent Insurance Agent. She also was preceded in death by siblings Edward Syrek, John Syrek, Shirley Montgomery and Juliann Trembour. She is survived by three siblings: Terrance Syrek, Richard Syrek and Marguerite Gardner, all of whom reside in Pennsylvania. Ann is survived by four children, Thomas Daniel and wife Keri of Baton Rouge, Ann Daniel Dodson and husband Graham of Austin, TX, Judge Louis Daniel, and David Daniel and wife Janet, of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Ann Loiselle and Daniel Graham Dodson of Austin, TX, Mary Rose and John Daniel of New York, NY and College Station, TX respectively, and Luke, Kate and Ben Daniel of Baton Rouge; and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann's name to The Hospice of Baton Rouge or Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Visiting will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Todd Lloyd. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Jeff Albright, Will Wilton, Suresh Mahajan, Murray Greer, Graham Dodson, John Daniel, Daniel Graham Dodson and Steve Myers. The family wishes to sincerely thank Ann's close neighbor, Frances Fakouri, for her kind assistance and also the caregivers from Serving Angels.
