Alma Beth Clark, PhD, born June 3, 1923, in Lecompte, LA, passed away on Tuesday, December 28. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and resided for the last 20 years at St. James Retirement Community. A.B., as she was lovingly known, had a passion for education. After graduating from LSU, she started her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher in 1945-46 at Dutchtown High School. After completing her master's degree in Tennessee, she returned to LSU as an instructor in family economics and management. Her next stop was Karachi, Pakistan, where she helped get a College of Home Economics started. After completing her PhD in 1961 from Cornell University, she returned to Karachi with Oklahoma State University and The Ford Foundation to develop a graduate program at the Karachi College. She returned to LSU in 1963 to teach, research, and was in administration for 11 years. She retired in 1982 as Director of the School of Home Economics at LSU. A.B. loved to laugh with her sisters, play cards, gardening, weaving, baking, attending Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years, and sharing her many talents with her nieces and nephews. She always came up with the most unique gifts that had life lessons attached. She lived a very happy life and always saw the good in everybody. She is survived by her sister, Cecil Garrett; nieces, Gay Garrett Nunnery, Donna Smith (Amos), Jan Schittone (Glenn), Melanie Hidalgo (Ned); nephew, Tommy Lewis (Julie); and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lilly and Eddie Clark; sisters, Stella Lewis and Marguerite Guaccero; and brother, Kenneth Clark. A visitation for A.B. will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 10 am until funeral service at noon at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (11000 Florida Blvd). A graveside service and burial will take place on January 4 at 11 am at Wilmer Memorial Cemetery in Lecompte, LA.
