She was born in Leipzig Germany December 19, 1945. Sylvia traveled to America with her mother in 1945 to Ellis Island. Eventfully being adopted by her father, John Giovanni at age 13 and relocating to DeLeon Springs, Florida. She attended Deland High School where she met her husband Raye Sorensen. Sylvia and Raye were married for over 35 years and spent most of their life traveling with the Navy and making lifelong friends, before settling down in Austin Texas to raise their two children. In 2003 Raye passed away and Sylvia spent the rest of her life loving her 5 grandchildren.
She was a florist by trade for over 50 years, and spent 7 years working at the Hyatt Lost Pines In Bastrop Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ursula and John Giovanni. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Lisa Botello, son, Eric Sorensen and his wife Emily, five grandchildren, Meghan, William, Luke, Marshall, Jillian, sister, Valerie Roche, brother, Gary Giovanni and his wife Linda, sister, Kim Giovanni, brother-in-law, Rod Sorensen, cousins, Susi and Mike Witkowski, Barbara and Jim Murphy, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas.
