Joyce Wolf

Betty Joyce (Cassel) Wolf passed away peacefully on March 2, 2013 at the age of 77. Joyce was born in Phelan, Texas (a small railroad community on the outskirts of Bastrop, Texas) on August 3, 1935. Joyce’s parents were Mary (Miller) and Oscar Lee Cassel. Joyce graduated from Bastrop High School in 1952, where she was a Varsity Cheerleader all four years in High School.

Joyce married Carl B. Wolf on May 9th, 1954. They were happily married for over 55 years and in 2004 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary among family and friends in Bastrop, TX.

Joyce lived with Carl and their family in Corpus Christi and Houston, TX for over 30 years as Carl advanced at Southwestern Bell, before returning to Bastrop in 1984. Joyce was especially talented in arts and crafts and loved painting ceramics, crafting flower arrangements, baking and decorating cakes, and knew how to turn a home into a special place. Joyce had three children; Gregory (son) and Darla Wolf of Boerne, TX, Brenda (daughter) and Mark Gillcrist of San Diego, CA and Keith (son) and Audrey Wolf of Round Rock, TX. She has 8 grandchildren; Nathan (grandson) and Jill Wolf, Clint (grandson) and Angie Wolf, Aryn Wolf, Val and Alex Gillcrist, Tori, Thomas, Trinity Wolf and three great-grandchildren; Avery, Cameron, and Maya Wolf.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Carl Wolf, and her brother Orville Lee Cassel and her sister Nevelyn Corbett of Bastrop, TX. Surviving sibling are Helen Hancock and Oscar Allan Cassel of Bastrop, TX and Tommy Cassel of Austin, TX.

Joyce was a caring, loving, and kind wife, mother, sister, and friend. We will miss her and love her very much.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, March 7th at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, TX with a Rosary service at 7 pm. A Funeral ceremony will be held at 10am on Friday, March 8th at Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, TX with graveside services held at Fairview Cemetery following the service.
