Born in Pittsylvania County July 13, 1937, he was a son of the late Ellis Hamilton Dodson and Eva Johnson Dodson. He was also preceded in death by a brother Ronnie Dodson.
Wayne served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years after which he joined the Martinsville Police Department October 23, 1960. He was named a complaint officer in 1965, and became a sergeant on November 2, 1971. He graduated from the FBI Academy in 1972, and from Averett College in 1976, in the field of criminal justice, all to further his career in order to serve and protect all the people in his community. He joined the Henry County Sheriff’s Department in 1979 as a Lieutenant and led the High Intensity Team. In 1981, he was named Director of Safety and Security at American of Martinsville. In 1991, he became Captain of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department where he served until his retirement in 1998.
Wayne is survived by his wife Margaret C. Dodson, two sons, Geoffrey Eanes of Fieldale and David Wayne Eanes ad his wife Elizabeth of Martinsville, two daughters, Lori Dodson and Kathy Dodson both of Fieldale, his sister, Donna Wehner of Lake Mary, FL, his brother, Jerry Dodson of Vancouver, WA, six grandchildren, Amanda Secrest, Tiffany Case, Jeremy Daniel Eanes, Clark Hamilton Dodson, Ashley Eanes, Joshua Aaron Eanes, four great-grandchildren, McKayla Jamison, Caleb Dillon Shaw, Jeff Via, Jr., Connor Wayde Adkins, several nieces and nephews, and a wonderful lifelong friend who was like a brother, Mr. William “Bill” Cherry.
The graveside funeral service with full military rites will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, February 17, 2014, in Chatham Burial Park with the Rev. Bill Preskitt officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Cherry, Charles Long, Steve West, Joe Lewis Hairston, Ronnie Hatcher and Gary Pedigo.
