Ruby Lavelle Wood

Ruby Lavelle McMillian Wood, 90, of Bassett, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016. She was born on April 30, 1926 in Ararat, VA to the late Grover Cleveland McMillian and Maude Hiatt McMillian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Wood; sons, Randy Wood, Arthur Wood; and one sister, Mildred Simmons.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughters, Brenda Patterson and her husband, Fred of Roxboro, NC, Karyn Spears and her husband, Erny of Chico, CA; son, Terry Wood and his wife, Amy of Bassett, VA; sister, Germaine Saunders of Lexington, KY; five granddaughters; one grandson; two great granddaughters; and four great grandsons.

Mrs. Wood was a member of Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren. She was an avid rook player and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working with her flowers and loved her family pets.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, VA with Pastor Noel Naff officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
