Robert Benford Hundley

Robert Benford Hundley, age 93, of 5175 Preston Rd., Martinsville, died Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Henry County on October 4, 1918, he was a son of the late Robert T. Hundley and Jessie Clark Hundley. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Crystal H. Clark, and a brother, Melvin Hundley.
Benford was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, chairman of the church board, and Elder, and he also was named an Elder Emeritus. He was a charter member of the Preston Ruritan Club. He was a building supply salesman for many years, having worked at Lester Brothers and Anthony Brothers, and he retired from Finney Building Supply.
Benford is survived by his wife of 71 years, Christine Tilley Hundley of the home, one daughter, Patsy H. Fleishman and her husband Stuart, of Gaithersburg, MD, a sister, Sue H. Perdue of Rocky Mount, a brother, Douglas Hundley and his wife Frances of Fieldale, brother-in-law, Norvell Clark of Stuart, two grandchildren, Amanda F. Wilson and husband J.D., and Tiffany F. Cupps and husband Arthur, and three great-grandchildren, Isaac Cupps, Ethan Cupps, and Bethany Wilson.
The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Mills officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 3472 Dillons Fork Rd., Fieldale, VA, 24089.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett.
