Ms. Rebecca Willie Harper, 74 and 7 months, of 1784 John Baker Road, Fieldale, VA, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2012 at the Franklin Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount, VA. She was born March 16, 1938 in Bedford, VA, to the late Emmett Robert Harper and Rosie Ines Eggleston Harper. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruby S. Callaway and Gloria “Faye” Rumley, two sisters, Maxine Rumley and Janet “Elaine” Rucker and four brothers, Robert, Benjamin “Benny”, David ‘Dave” and Emmett “Nelson” Harper.
Rebecca went to school in the Bedford County School system, she worked at Bassett Superior Line in the crating department until she retired after thirty one years. She was a member of Way of Truth Holiness Church, where she was President of Pastor Aid, Treasure of Missionary Department, Usher Board and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.
Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Wray of Martinsville, VA, and Mary Harper of Fieldale, VA, three sons and daughters-in-law; Calvin and Brenda Harper of Fieldale, VA, Billy and Felicia Harper and Kermit and Bonita Harper all of Martinsville, VA, two brothers, William Harper of Fieldale, VA, and Raymond Harper of Martinsville, VA, two sisters, Rachel Redd and Rosie Harper both of Martinsville, VA, six grandchildren; Antione, Louis, Xzavior and Dorien Harper, Corey Rumley, Brittney Hairston and Kiara Morrison. Due to the death of her sister and daughter, she helped raise and mother, Vernetta Harper, Taiwan Harper and Corey Rumley. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, two uncles and a host of nieces ,nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be November 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Refuge Temple in Martinsville with Dr. Lewis B. Simmons officiating.
The family will receive friends one prior to the service. Burial will be in the Harper Family Cemetery.
