Mary Clark Martin, 90, of Bassett, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at her home. Mary was born in Patrick County, February 20, 1926 to Rufus Jack Clark and Bessie Morrison Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Fred B. Martin; her son, Michael Fred Martin; siblings, Claude Clark, Kester Clark, Lillie Cooley, Dorothy Chaney, Gladys Chaney, Ercell Terrell, Rufus Clark and Lonie Foster.
Mary retired from DuPont in 1986 after working for 38 years. She was a dedicated caregiver to her husband 18 years before his death. She was a devoted, loving, caring, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed attending church, reading her bible, cooking, spending time with her family and telling stories of her childhood. Her greatest love was being with her grandchildren. Mary was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 63 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Whitehead and husband, Ronald of Bassett; grandchildren, Travis Whitehead, Michael Brooks Martin and Keela Rakes, all of Bassett; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Brooks Martin, Hayley Martin and Ryan Martin, all of Stuart and a special "lil" caregiver, Kyleigh.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett and other times at the home.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Towler officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
