Marilyn L. Maietta of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018. She was born on August 24, 1926 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Margaret and Russell Clock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick P. Maietta and her sister, Mrs. Jean (Peter) Petrocelli.
Marilyn graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in Battle Creek. She attended Patrick Henry Community College and was a graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She was previously employed by MHMHC and the Kennedy Center.
Marilyn was responsible for the formation of the local support group for Guillian-Barre’ Syndrome. She was also active in the West Piedmont AIDS Task Force, serving as Case Manager and Service Coordinator for five years. She was also a Red Cross Certified AIDS Educator. She was a member of Hospice of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was active as coordinator of the Divine Guidance Committee for the new church, as the coordinator for the Bereavement Committee and as an Eucharistic minister.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kay Berger (Bruce, Sr.); four grandchildren, Patricia Reynolds Adams (Jeff), Jason Reynolds, Bruce A. Berger Jr. (Lucy) and Laurie Berger; great grandchildren, Melissa Berger, Eliza Adams, Jude Adams, Nate Adams, Henry Berger and Wilson Berger.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018 followed by Rosary at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Martinsville Virginia.
