James Randolph Joyce, Jr., age 80, was born in the Shackleford Hospital on Church Street in Martinsville, VA. He quickly moved to his home in Rangeley Community. He was born on March 30, 1943 to the late James Randolph Joyce, Sr. and the late Estelle Smith Joyce. His father was born in Stella, VA and his mother was born in Woolwine, VA.
Randy is survived by his very compatible, Loving, Christian Best Friend and Great Travel Companion, Faye Freeman Haynes, and daughter, Brittany Joyce Sands.
He was a graduate of V.P.I. in Blacksburg, VA, graduate of the School of Bank Management at UVA and School of Bank Marketing at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Randy was employed by First National Bank of Martinsville and Henry County, UVB and retired as a Trust Officer of Crestar Bank. A highlight of his banking career was being elected President of the Young Bankers Section of the VA Bankers Association. He was also employed by National Life of Vermont, Transamerica and Northwestern Mutual.
In 1966, Randy became a member of Rotary International and he enjoyed attending many District Conferences and International Conventions. A highlight of his civic life was serving as Campaign Chairman of the United Way of Martinsville and Henry County in 1976 and President in 1977.
Randy accepted JESUS CHRIST as his Lord and Savior at age 11 and was Baptized by Rev. Bill Mills at Fieldale Baptist Church. He is currently a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville, VA. His primary passion was sharing his love for God, Family and America. Especially after 1999 when he spent time in Guilin and Guangzhou, China. Hong Kong was enjoyable at that time, but wouldn’t be now.
Travel was also an important passion, following his parents tradition of exploring God’s world. After retirement, Randy relished travel in our USA, Europe, Asia, South America and Canada.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home.
