Mr. Hairston was preceded in death by his parents, James Isaac Hairston and Bertha Hairston Gallant; his wife, Mary E. Morris Hairston; sisters, Bessie Snell,

Ruby McGee and Mildred Holt; brothers, James L. Hairston and Columbus Hairston.

He is survived by his daughters, Elaine (George) Foster, Brenda (Darnell) Taylor, Faye Hairston, Ophelia (Paul) Norman, Renee (Dereke) Strawn, Fernanda (C.J.) Martin; sons, Sonny (Shawn) Hairston, Leth (Marian) Hairston, Vernon (Lovey) Hairston, Hosea (Kennita) Hairston, Van Julius (Tracey) Hairston, Zyrus Hairston, Troy (Nada) Hairston, Elliot (Evona) Hairston; sisters, May Preston, Bertha (Byrd) Stokes; brothers, Leonard P. Hairston, Odell Hairston, Lazarus Hairston, Elijah (E.C.) Hairston; 36 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He was a devoted husband and father who retired from Bassett Industries and he was a member of House of Purpose Ministries.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Assembly Building located at 980 Carver Road, Martinsville with Pastor C.J. Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hairston Family Cemetery.
