Adam Byrd Witt

Adam Byrd Witt, 88, of Bassett, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born, September 3, 1928 in Henry County, Virginia to Henry Witt and Minnie Via Witt, both deceased. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters; Christine Walker, and Carleen Gilley, and his brother Burton Witt. He is survived by the love of his life for 67 years, Irene Agnew Witt who affectionately referred to him as “Punkin”; Sister- in- Law, Clemon Agnew Rorrer, and many nieces and nephews. Byrd was an avid gardener and shared much of his crop with his friends, neighbors, and family. He had a deep love for his church and church friends at Thomas Grove Primitive Baptist and was a well-known local automobile upholster for 68 years. Byrd was respectfully self-educated. Many family and friends would consult with him for good advice. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home chapel and at other times at the residence of Karen Eggleston, 18 Diana Court, Martinsville, Va. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Witt Family Cemetery in Patrick County.
