William Edward "Bill" Whitby, 92, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 23, 1930 in Peoria, a son of Edward and Jennie (Smith) Whitby. Bill married Jenny Julien on June 8, 1952 in Peoria. She survives.
He is also survived by his four children, Steve (Peggy) Whitby of Elmwood, Karen (Mike) Helfers of Peoria, Richard (Jackie) Whitby of Georgia, and Scott (Marie) Whitby of Peoria; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Trudy) Whitby of Peoria Heights.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Otis and Tom Whitby; and one sister, Ginger Wilcoxen.
Bill served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, a decorated veteran of the Korean War.
He worked as a meter technician for CILCO for 40 years, retiring in 1992.
Bill was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. He was licensed pilot for many years. Bill was a lifetime member of the Peoria Motorcycle Club, where he was a past president.
Bill's funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Rev. Karl Eckhoff will officiate. His visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm also on Monday at his church. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel will be handling the arrangements. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Hanna City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church at https://www.christlutheranpeo.org/.
