She was born March 9, 1919 in Peoria, IL to Hugh and Clara (Anders) Knott. She married Howard H. Spangler in 1945 in Peoria and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Also preceding in death were her daughter, Virginia Weller; son, Ralph Ned Powell; her brother Jack Knott and sister, Annabelle Stivers.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Lowder of Bartonville; sister, Bette Svob of Sunnyland; grandchildren, Erin and Brooke Lowder, Cathy Wilkey, Marty Weller and Reggie Weller; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Ruth worked alongside her husband for many years doing everything from bookkeeping to rodding and painting radiators. After retiring to Florida, Ruth became a cafeteria manager in the public school system there.
Ruth took advantage of the warm Florida climate by growing a variety of flowers, shrubs, plants and fruit trees.
Ruth will be remembered for living her dreams. She always looked for new challenges and took many classes to learn various art and craft skills. She was also a wonderful cook and baker.
Coming from a musical family, Ruth and her sisters sang on radio programs in the 1940’s.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Association and attended Glasford Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, also at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel followed by burial at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials are suggested to CWTC in Peoria.
