Robert E. "Bob" Young

Robert “Bob” Eugene Young, 86, of Peoria, formerly of Bartonville, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Proctor Place. He was born on May 31, 1931 in Peoria to Clarence and Louise (Rapp) Young. He married Nadine L. Finley on September 15, 1951 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Kurt (Janine) Young of Bartonville, Kyle (Dawn) Young of East Peoria, Karen (Tom) Frister of Minneapolis, MN and Kim (Scott) Weber of Morton; one sister, Donna Cash of Peoria; one brother-in-law, James (Mary Jo) Finley; four grandchildren, Laura (Craig) Janssen, Kristen (Travis) Huff, Caitlin (Tyler) Grefe and Alex Frister; four great grandchildren, Reese and Finn Janssen, Kendall Huff and Hadley Grefe and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gale Young.

He worked as a Plant Manager for the Westinghouse Electric Corporation at various locations for over 16 years and later worked at Foremost Electric in Peoria where he retired in 2006.

Bob was a graduate of Bradley University. He was an Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post #979. He was a member of the Peoria Elks Lodge. Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed many interests, such as golf, bowling, watching Bradley basketball, traveling and working in the yard, and he loved to go dancing with his wife. His family and friends will always remember him as “The Whistler”. Bob was a devoted parishioner and one of the founding members of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council.

Funeral Mass will be at 10am Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville. Father David Heinz will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4pm until 7pm at the church and 30 minutes before the service on Wednesday at the church. A Scripture Service will be at 6:45 pm Tuesday at the church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to the American Parkinson Association.
