He was born on March 7, 1947 in Peoria to Phillip and Doris (Kendall) Hornung. He married Rebecca Sue (Astel) on December 28, 1966 in Bloomington. After a year of marriage, they had a Catholic wedding ceremony at St. John's Catholic Church in Peoria. He later married Vicky Bausal in 2022; she survives.
Surviving are his children, Phillip Hornung of East Peoria, Kristine Hornung of Peoria, and Jamie Holocker of Morton; one sister, Susan (Robert) Zeller of Bettendorf, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jacob, Taylor (Paige), Christopher, Noah (Kayla), Brody, Kaden and Rebecca; three great grandchildren, Maddox, Taylin, and Luna; and his best friend of over 50 years, Greg Kolb.
He was preceded in death by Rebecca, his wife of over 40 years, his parents and his granddaughter, Tiffanie.
Phil attended Manual High School and was a mechanic by trade. He enjoyed working with his hands and watching football. Phil was a member of the Knights of Columbus Spaulding Counsel 427 in Peoria, IL.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament in Morton where a celebration of life and honorary mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery. Details will be announced.
