Karl Gottlieb, 87 of Bartonville, Illinois passed away at 11:53 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at his residence. He was born on September 8th, 1935 in Peoria, Illinois, the only son of Gareld and Jeanette (McCombs) Gottlieb. He married Mary Ann Court on August 22, 1964 in Aurora, Illinois. They were married for 58 years. She survives.
Also surviving are his sister, Karen Gottlieb (Wilbur Williamson) of Downs, Illinois; daughter, Ginger (Kris) Adams; son, Kurt (Bethany) Gottlieb; and grandchildren, Aragorn, Hawkeye, and Caspian Adams, Kelsi, Allison, Zach, Ava, and Sophia Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Atticus Adams.
Karl attended East Peoria High School and graduated from Bradley University, playing baseball for all four years in college. He was a catcher for the 1956 Bradley University College World Series baseball team. He served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was stationed in Germany and traveled throughout Europe playing baseball for the 7th Army. He taught school in Magnolia and East Aurora, and spent the last 29 years of his career at Limestone Community High School. While at Limestone he served as assistant and head varsity baseball coach.
Karl loved baseball as both a player and a coach. He played in the Sunday Morning League for many years. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Karl’s funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2022 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Peoria. Fr. Jeremy Freehill will officiate. His visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. An additional visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will take place in Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
