Jim was born June 8, 1944 in Peoria, IL to Carl N. and Frances (Stanley) Barnett. He married Joyce Grisham on July 12, 1964 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joyce: one daughter, Jamie (Jeff) Skaggs, Trivoli, two sons, Mikle Barnett, Peoria, and Shane (Amy) Barnett, Hanna City; six grandchildren, Jordan Barnett, Phoenix, Az., Chelsea Barnett, San Jose, Jessee (Brooke) Skaggs, Glasford, Macae Skaggs, Leroy, Katelyn Barnett, Aledo, and Maccrae Barnett, Hanna City; two great-grandchildren, Kellan Skaggs, and Campbell Skaggs, Glasford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Jim worked as a truck driver for several companies over the years including Coca Cola, Kelly Potato Chips, Jays, and had last worked as a parts delivery driver for Uftring Weston Chevrolet Cadillac in Peoria.
Over the years, Jim had been a volunteer fireman with the Limestone Township, a coach for girl’s softball, and bowled on several leagues over the years, He also loved going to car shows in his 1951 Chevy. His dream was to get it fully restored and be out there again showing it off. If anyone needed help, Jim was always available to help with anything they needed done. He loved to travel and he and Joyce had traveled to all of the 48 states in the continental U.S., frequently traveling with their good friends and family.
Jim loved his family and could be spotted at any and all events that his kids and grandkids were involved in; basketball, football, baseball, track, soccer, karate, softball, horse shows, school events, (there was Grandpa in the stands or sitting in his lawn chair watching). He was always there to offer help and advice and was frequently heard telling some of them “Make sure you call me when you get home.”
A visitation for Jim will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and private family graveside services will be held at Lutheran Cemetery.
