Born July 29, 1930 in Peoria, IL to Carl G. and Gladys (Travis) Zimmerman; he married the former Juel Modlin on October 14, 1951 in Peoria. She preceded him in death along with his parents and two brothers, Donnie and Dean Zimmerman.
Surviving are his children, Jill (Gordon) Meyers and Joanne Williamson, both of Bartonville, Marianne (Max) Samp of Riverside, WA and Stephen (Roni Jo Mullen) Zimmerman of Peoria; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Jerry was a US Army veteran serving in both the reserves and active duty in the 1950’s.
He was a long time member of Bartonville American Legion Post #979 and also the Bartonville Lions Club.
He spent 13 years with Illinois Bell in the Peoria area before going to work at the former Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville where he retired after 28 years.
Jerry is remembered as a man of many talents who enjoyed wood carving and building all kinds of things. His children recall his joy in baking Christmas goodies and sharing them with family and friends with whom he loved spending time. He loved wintering in Florida with Juel over 19 years. They also recall the kind and loving way he always put his children first- He was a great dad.
Cremation has been accorded by Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel and the family will hold a celebration of his life in the future.
