George Kenneth Dunn, 80, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on April 16, 1943 in Wyoming, a son of Frank W. Dunn, Sr. and Mildred J. (Tjaden) Dunn. George married Eleanor Lydia Ehnle on June 11, 1961 in Wyoming. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, Kenneth A. (Cindy) Dunn of Norwood; his daughter, Kimberly A. (Charles) Varnes of Hanna City; nine grandchildren, Jillian (Daniel) Porath of Channahon, Stephanie (Chris Formhals)Taylor of Groveland, Joshua (Robert) Brown of Peoria, Kevin (Meng Li) Dunn of Peoria, Stacey (Matt) Reed of Peoria, Kimberly (Rick) Moss of Pekin, Heather (Chris) Dybek of Manlius, and C.O. (Rebecca) Varnes of Beverly, Massachusetts; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie Leon of Kewanee and Margaret Cantwell of Toulon.
George was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank Dunn, Jr.; and one sister, Alice Tolle.
He worked as a wood pattern maker for Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton for 32 years, retiring in 2000.
George was a member of the A.F. & A.M. Lodge #479 in Wyoming and the Peoria Patternmaker's League, where he was a past treasurer. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. George loved to refinish antiques and was an avid gardener. He was especially known for his dry sense of humor and his "one-liners".
George's funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Rev. Dick Hanson will officiate. His visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 also at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Smithville Cemetery.
