She was born October 15, 1931 in Peoria to Fridolin “Fred” O. and Louise (Dunz) Johnigk. She married Glenn Waibel on May 28, 1976 in Peoria They lived in the Johnigk family home until her death. Surviving are her husband, four stepchildren Gary (Joyce) Waibel of Washington, Barbara (Michael) Thomas of Pekin, David (Trisha) Waibel of San Jose, Connie Jo (Kevin) Alexander of Pekin; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, 4 nephews: Theresa (Michael) Haughney, George (Jill) Merkle, Joe Merkle, Ed (Renee) Merkle, and Paul Merkle and their families.
Her parents, her sisters and their husbands Anne (Bud) Merkle, Rose (Robert) Delaney, and 2 nieces: Marita Merkle, Miriam Delaney preceded her in death.
A graduate of St. Ambrose College, Clare received her Master's Degree from Notre Dame University. She was a Benedictine nun for 20 years during which time she was a teacher. Clare also taught at Spalding Academy. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bartonville and was active in many committees.
A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bartonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Clare's memory may be made to St. Anthony's Church.
