Arthur W. Carey, 88, of Bartonville, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria surrounded in love by his family. He was born on February 8, 1930 in Bartonville to Henry W. and Minnie (Mitzelfelt) Carey. He married Joanne J. Schmitt on June 1, 1952 in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years; three children Stewart of Yakima, WA, Kimberly of Bartonville, and David of Palm Springs, CA; four Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren; one sister Betty Hogan of Peoria and two brothers Lyle of Toluca and Nyle of Peoria.
Arthur was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He worked for 25 years as Terminal Manager for Missouri Portland Cement Corp., which became LaFarge Corp., retiring in 1992. He continued working part-time as a custodian at Limestone Community High School for 9 years. He took great pride in taking care of the lawn and the flowers. In his quiet moments, he enjoyed sitting in the sun reading and writing poetry. One of his most memorable times was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. He loved spending time with his family, most of all watching his grandchildren grow.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Friends may call upon the family from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the Celebration at the funeral home. A time of fellowship will follow at the American Legion Post # 979 in Bartonville at 4:00 PM.
