Archie "Doc" L. Yeley passed away Monday, July 31st, at OSF Medical in Peoria, Illinois. Born on February 17th, 1932, in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Lester and Nettie Fields Yeley, he married Bonnie Bayne in Peoria on March 17th, 1955. She survives; along with one son, Darren (Lesley); his granddaughter, Eyran Taylor Yeley; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doc in death were his parents; two sisters, Margaret and Betty; and three brothers, Leroy, Fred, and Perry.
Upon his return in 1954 from 16 1/2 months in the Korean War, serving in the United States Army with the 865 Battalion, Doc worked briefly at Keystone before joining the Bartonville Police Department in 1957. He went on to serve 22 years and retire as Chief-of-Police. Doc was later elected Mayor of Bartonville and served two terms, from 1985-1993. He was most proud of his leadership in growing the Village by annexation and developing the former Peoria State Hospital Grounds into an Industrial Park.
Doc spent ten years on the Limestone High School board from 1975-1985, was past president of the Bartonville Lion's Club, previously served on the Peoria Public Bldg. Commision, Greater Peoria Sanitary District Board, and the Sherwood Youth Camp B.O.D. Currently Doc was a member of Bartonville American Legion and VFW, the IL Police Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Mohammed Shrine, and the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 40.
Doc enjoyed Bradley Basketball, helping Darren mow, going to Bear's football games, Don's lunches, the Indy 500, and always most important to him was his time with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
At his request, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no visitation or service at this time. A burial service will be held at a later date at St. John's Cemetery.
