Robbie is predeceased by her husband, Walter Cecil Roome; son, Walter Frank Roome; parents, and her six brothers, Walter Lee, Ralph Edward, Roy Daniel, Raymond Marion, Eynan Turner (Bucky) and Rebel Leon “Pod”; and sister Helen Elizabeth Via; one nephew, Grady Sebastian, III; one niece, Marion Via Jackson.
She is survived by her son Dean Arthur Roome; beloved sister Reba Via Sebastian, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Robbie graduated from Bartlett High School in 1939 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. She didn’t complete her senior year because she was recruited as a French translator during World War II. She and her sister Helen, eventually moved to Houston to pursue their secretarial careers.
It was in Houston that she met and married Walter Cecil Roome. They were introduced in the summer of 1958 while Robbie was working as executive secretary for Tennessee Gas Transmission Company. They were married on December 20, 1958. After Cecil’s retirement in 1978, they moved to the Via family home in Bartlett. Robbie was a member of First United Methodist Church and an organizing member of the Bartlett Activities Center and held numerous offices in that organization. She was also a member of Embassy Chapter, National Society of Colonial Dames, 15th Century.
Robbie was a voracious reader, loved flowers and as long as she had the strength, was an avid gardener. You may have seen her grooming her lawn aboard her riding lawn mower, an activity she thoroughly enjoyed. Robbie was also an accomplished artist, whose media was oils.
Robbie saw the good in everything around her, which was evident in her love for painting. Each painting is a perfect illustration of her love of art and life itself. She was so generous of her talent, whether by sharing the fruits of her labor from her garden or donating her art to anyone who expressed interest. She possessed a special sweetness that all who loved her will certainly treasure forever in our memory.
She was a gentle, generous, and kind person with a wry sense of humor. All in our family agree that Robbie possessed a special sweetness that we who loved her, shall miss in our lives.
