Ellis Logan Ramsey, Sr. was born to William Logan Ramsey and Rose Ila Ware Ramsey on August 3, 1924 in Bartlett, TX. He graduated from Bartlett Public Schools at the age of 16 and went to Fort Worth, TX to attend Texas Christian University and play football for the Frogs. World War II called him to service and he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force in April, 1943. Before leaving for basic training he returned to Bartlett to marry the love of his life Mary Jo Powers Ramsey. Once he completed his basic training, Ellis served as a radio technician with the 77th Infantry in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in December, 1945 and returned to Bartlett to his wife and infant son, Ellis Logan Ramsey, Jr.; helping his dad on the family farm. Eventually, Ellis took over the farm harvesting cotton, maize and corn for many years. In 1957, their second son Robert Ray Ramsey was born.
Ellis and Mary Jo spent their time raising their family, hunting and fishing. Ellis was an excellent hunter and still ‘the best wing shot’ of the family.
