William J. Coffman

William J. “Uncle Bill” Coffman, 85, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at Allen Morgan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, TN. Born in rural Crockett County, TN on December 11, 1925, he was raised in Gates, TN and lived most of his life in Memphis. After graduating from Halls High School, he served in the Navy and then attended Memphis State University. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1953 and then worked at Delta Refinery for his entire career. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Thompson Coffman, his parents, Austin and Fay Coffman, and his brother, Bob Coffman. He is survived by a brother, Keith Coffman of Memphis; four sisters-in-law: Frances Coffman of Memphis; Mary Jo Coffman of Jackson, TN, Sydney Daws of Phoenix, AZ and Jenny Sanders of Casa Grande, AZ; numerous relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Central Church in Collierville on December 20 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00. A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service. The family requests that memorials be sent to Gates United Methodist Church (P.O.
