Shirley graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago, Il, in 1950 and later from Passavant Nursing School (Chicago, IL)where she earned her RN. Shirley was united in marriage to Dean Drewry in June 1955.
Shirley spent her early years of marriage raising her children before returning to work at Shelby County Health Center where she worked as an RN and supervisor for over 20 years. She was devoted to her family and others, always demonstrating kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. She never forgot a birth or special occasion and was known for sending holiday packages for all occasions. Shirley was also an incredible cook who could recreate from taste the most elegant of meals from any restaurant. She was an avid and competitive golfer well into her mid 80’s.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Dean Drewry, her father Russell Newnam, her parents, Beatrice and Patrick Dowling(step father), brother Ron Newnam, and parents-in-law Dean and Lucille Drewry. She is survived by her 3 children, Sharon Drewry of Bartlett, TN; Greg (Jacky) Drewry of Oostburg, WI; and Deana Drewry (Tracy Powell) of Nashville, TN and 6 grandchildren Cory Drewry, Chicago, Il; Garret (Allison)Drewry Belfair, WA; Nathan (Anna) Drewry Fort Irwin, CA; Drew Powell, Nashville, TN; Patrick Powell Nashville, TN/Fort Worth, TX and Alisha Jones (David) Tuscaloosa, AL. She is also survived by several great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield, TN at 1 pm on Saturday, December 17.
