Rev. W. Luther Carlisle, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on October 21, 2016. Luther was born on January 5, 1926 in Lincoln County, Mississippi to Walter Henry and Susie Ritchie Carlisle. A Southern Baptist Minister since 1950, Rev. Carlisle was the founding Pastor of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Louisiana. He then was called to the Memphis area, where he served as Pastor of Kensington Baptist Church in Memphis and Calvary Baptist Church in Bartlett. He served as the Director of “Camp Cordova” as well as Mens’ Brotherhood and Royal Ambassadors for the Shelby Baptist Association. More recently, as a member of Bellevue Baptist Church, he has been Pastor for their Sunday worship services at the Robinwood Retirement Community in Bartlett, and has been an active participant in Bellevue’s Family of Friends Bible Study Life Group. In addition to his ministries, Rev. Carlisle became involved in real estate, and operated his property management firm, Carlisle Enterprises. During World War II, Rev. Carlisle served in the US Army 28th Infantry as a machine gunner, involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the Rhine River. He is an honoree of the Forever Young Senior Veterans Organization. Rev. Carlisle was preceded in death by wife Jeanne Greer Carlisle. He is survived by former wife Jo Carlisle Lucas, children Joyce Hope (Walt) DeLeeuw, David (Tina) Greer, Jeff (Theresa) Greer, and Joy Grace (Matthew) Bowser. He is also survived by grandchildren Eric (Allyson) Hignight, Jessica, Dalton, Micah, Laurel, Hannah and Chance, and his most dear and loving friends Randy and Carla Stotts. Other surviving family members include his brothers and sisters, Henry (Dot) Carlisle, Julie (A.T., Dec.) Bankston, Shelby (Jesse) Carlisle, Doc (Mavis) Carlisle, Bill (Debbie) Carlisle, Lois (Pat) Hodge and Lynda (Jediah) Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rev. John (Ruby, Dec.) Carlisle and sister, Lessie (Robert, Dec.) Touchstone. Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. is handling funeral arrangements.
