Ray was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Noble; his longtime partner, Martha Pirtle; and his siblings, Robert, Eugene and Bill Noble, and Lillian Noble Hunsaker.
Ray graduated from Chaffee High School in 1948. A proud veteran, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army and later served in the U.S. Air Force. After returning home, he worked for the railroad for seven years before dedicating 32 years to Kellogg, from which he retired. Ray was an avid sports enthusiast, his passion for his favorite teams shining brightly throughout his life. He was a dedicated supporter of the Memphis Tigers football team, rarely missing a game on television and always cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm from the comfort of his home. His love for basketball was evident in his loyalty to the Memphis Grizzlies, and he was known for his spirited discussions about their latest victories. Ray also held a deep affection for baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, faithfully following every season. His love for these teams brought him immense joy. He also spent much of his time watching westerns like Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
Ray had a heart for dogs. Together with his son he dedicated his time to raising, owning, and racing greyhounds at Southland Greyhound Park. He had a deep love for his pets, and his last companions, Cocoa and Dude, held a special place in his heart. Cocoa, a gentle soul, and Dude, full of playful energy, brought Ray endless joy and comfort in his later years. They were always by his side, offering companionship and unconditional love, and their presence brightened his days. Ray’s bond with Cocoa and Dude was truly special, and the love they shared will be remembered by all who knew him.
Most of all Ray cherished his time with Martha, spending time with her at the casinos in Tunica, MS, where they shared many memorable moments. Whether trying their luck at the slots or enjoying a meal at one of the casino restaurants, they cherished the excitement and companionship these trips brought. Their visits to Tunica were filled with laughter, joy, and the simple pleasure of being together.
Ray is survived by his granddaughter, Chasity Bersane and her husband Rocco; great-grandson, Hamza F. Alhasani; three nieces, Carolyn Pierce, Linda Metcalf, and Gayla Baker; his dear friends Tamara Ortega and Michelle Stachon; and a host of other family members and friends.
In honor of Ray’s service, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors.
