Born and raised in Cordova, he was a proud graduate of Bartlett High School, Class of 1979. During his time at Bartlett, he served as President of the FFA, where he developed a passion for surveying land and honing his skills in Parliamentary Procedure.
Phillip’s career spanned various industries, starting as a groomer at Perk’s Kennel from 1974 to 1979. He then transitioned into construction, where he worked for Presidents Steel & Wire as a 3rd Shift Production Supervisor from 1988 to 1998.
A man of many interests, Phillip’s hobbies ranged from tending to his farm and caring for his cows, to bull riding at W&W Ranch Rodeo. He was also a poet who enjoyed expressing himself through words. Known for his tough exterior, Phillip had a heart of gold, and those who knew him best will remember him as a big-hearted jokester—a true teddy bear at heart.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Barton P. Rogers, Jr., his paternal grandmother Ruby Valentine Rogers, and his maternal grandmother Annie Katherine Person.
He is survived by his loving mother, Shirley Katherine Rogers; sisters Cathie (Bob) Thompson, Phyllis (Tim) Riecke, and Brenda (Troy) Metts; as well as his 6 nieces and nephews, and 10 great-nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered and forever cherished by his family, who will ensure that his legacy lives on, especially to the two great-nieces and nephews on the way.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 10:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, located at 3700 N Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN 38133 with Rev Bob Lane officiating.
