Philip M. Smith

Philip Morris Smith was born on May 10, 1942 to J.B. and Iva Ward Smith in Friendship, TN. Mr. Smith passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013. He was 70 years old. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Jimmie, Paul, Joe Frank and Mac, and his sisters, Peggy and Ann. He is survived by his sister Alice Williams, and many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Friendship High School in 1960 and attended Memphis State University. Philip was married to Pearl Balentine for 53 years and had 2 children, Philip Jon Smith and Lori Denise Grimmig. They made their home in Rosemark. He had 4 grandchildren, Philip Wesley Smith, April Nicole Grimmig, Alison Bianca Grimmig, and Timothy Wade Smith. He had 2 great grandchildren, Landon Weslee and Jaxon Kyler Smith Bumpus. Philip retired from Memphis Light, Gas and Water as an Industrial Gas Supervisor. After retirement he became a cattle rancher. He was a deacon and charter member of Community Baptist Church, Rosemark, TN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 3 from 12-2pm with a funeral at 2pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd.
