Paul Richard Wyatt, 92, went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2019. Paul was born on July 29, 1927 in Paris, TN to John Wesley and Eula May Wyatt. Paul, a retired comptroller, lived most of his adult life in Memphis, TN with his wife of 63 years, Helen who he married in Puryear, TN on September 1, 1956.
Paul was one of the friendliest men you’d ever meet. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. His smile, kindness, and sincerity will be deeply missed by all his family and everyone who met him. Paul remained active throughout his life, enjoying tennis and biking when he was younger and bowling in multiple leagues even in his 90s. He and Helen were very active members of Colonial Baptist Church in Memphis, and he served as a deacon and church treasurer for many years. Paul was a graduate of University of Memphis (c/o 1953) and loved cheering on the Tigers. He also enjoyed cheering on the Grizzlies and rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune.
Paul was the second youngest of 12 children and is survived by his youngest brother, James “Ed” Edward. Paul was preceded in death by both of his parents and his siblings: Flossie, Roy, Marvin, Philip, Rachel, Burdette, George, Cleveland, Frank, and Martha. Paul was deeply devoted to his family and is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Paul “Butch” Wyatt Jr.; son-in-law Donnie Huffman; and grandchildren Lauren (Jeremy) Walker and Kyle (Corinne) Huffman. Lauren and Jeremy are expecting Paul’s first great-grandchild. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Susan Huffman. Paul’s family, in-laws, and large group of friends will dearly miss his smile he shared with everyone, his kind blue eyes, his funny anecdotes, and his habit of always giving everyone a warm greeting and a nice word.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Paul’s memory be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, to honor his dedication as a caregiver, or St. Jude. Also, a wonderful tribute to Paul’s memory would be to smile and greet a stranger and to share kindness with those around you.
