Wendell was born to the Blanche and Erbenus Smith in New Albany, MS. A family man, he was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather. He danced with his granddaughter, Virginia, at every daddy-daughter dance. He enjoyed fishing, music (specifically Southern Gospel), and woodworking. He was very talented at making birdhouses and porch swings.
He loved to travel with his late wife, Barbara Smith and was fiercely independent. He was a sweet, kind, personable man who would talk to anyone and is remembered fondly for never meeting a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Smith Deas; granddaughter, Virginia Deas; brother, Bob Smith; and brothers-in-law, James Warren, and Gary Warren.
In lieu of flowers, donations for Mr. Smith can be made to the charity of donors’ choosing in his memory.
A visitation for Patrick will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. The funeral service will occur Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The committal service will occur Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:20 PM at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125.
