Mary Louise Bradshaw McCullough was born on November 22, 1927 along with her fraternal twin sister, Martha Bradshaw. Their parents Charles and Myrtle Bradshaw kept the 3 lb. girls alive and thriving in a 90 degree home and on eagle brand milk.
Mary and her sister brothers and sisters grew up worshipping at Elm Grove Methodist Church. Mary and Martha both played piano on Sundays.
Mary graduated from Byers Hall in Covington, TN. Mary worked at Ropers drug store through school and after as a clerk and behind they soda fountain. While working she saw a young man walking down the street wearing khakis, a white shirt, and with blonde hair. She told her friend she was going to marry him, which she did in fact do!
They married, moved to Memphis and bought a house. She worked several bookkeeping jobs and retired from the University Club. Mr. McCullough worked and retired from the Memphis Fire Department.
Mary was smart with a unique sense of humor. Her laugh was unforgettable.
She loved her husband with unchanging devotion. They shared a beautiful love story. She loved and cared for all four of her daughters. They were brought up in a loving Christian home. She took joy when they succeeded and encouraged them in troubled times.
Mary and her husband built their dream home in Shelby Forest. However, a few years later, Mr. McCullough suffered a heart attack. They soon downsized and she took care of him until his eventual death.
Even at 97, Mary had an amazing memory and quick wit. She lived alone and maintained her home, even after being widowed for 15 years. She passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
She leaves behind four daughters, Victoria Gatewood (Gary Marion), Paula Kabakoff, Donna Olswing (Gordon), and Constance Arbab (Bobby). Grandchildren include Justin and Megan Gatewood, Amanda and Michael Coulson, John Kabakoff, Kimberly and Larry Caton, Brian Moore, Alana and Kyle Olswing Thompson, and Brittany and Ashton Arbab. Her grandson Sean Day preceded her in death. Great-grandchildren include Grant Gatewood Maize and Adelynn Coulson, Harrison, Lexie, Claire Caton, and Jude Thompson. Mary was the glue that kept her family together. She will be forever loved and missed.
A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A committal service will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133.
