It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Allen; a cherished wife, mother, grandmother (Grann), and friend. Though we have to find our new normal without her, we are relieved she is finally healed and with Jesus.
Ann was born July 6th, 1956 and grew up in Memphis. After graduating from Whitehaven High School, she attended Baptist School of Nursing, graduating in 1977. She served in several nursing roles within the Methodist Healthcare System for 42 years before her retirement in 2019.
While in nursing school she met the love of her life, Jackie. The two married and built a beautiful and happy life for themselves and their girls. September 17th would have marked their 47th wedding anniversary.
Ann leaves behind her beloved husband Jackie, who is a hardworking family man that spoiled her for the nearly 50 years they were together. He always loved and took the best care of Ann to the very end. She also leaves behind her two daughters, Holly Allen and Jacqueline Potts, who both love her fiercely and cared for her throughout her illness. The girls depended on each other and grew closer through the progression of the disease. She loved her son-in-law, Daniel Potts, who is always there when needed and calms the crazy. Katie and Caleb already miss Grann’s devotion and silliness, camping and cooking together, feeding the chickens, showing her every single trinket possible, her driving the 4-wheelers, and her unwavering love for them. There are so many memories to keep and cherish.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Orville Zummach.
Also, her aunt and uncle, Mario and Catherine Alfonso. She is survived by her four siblings: Larry, Martin, Fred, and Jean.
A visitation for Ann will be held Tuesday evening, September 10th from 6 to 8pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy in Bartlett. A funeral mass will be held the following morning at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church located at 11710 US Highway 64 in Somerville at 11am. The Rosary will be prayed before mass beginning at 10am followed by a short visitation until mass begins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory. Ann had frontal lobe dementia, or Picks Disease, that started taking pieces of her away years ago.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team at Methodist for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Also, Ms. Smith and Jill for loving us and mom so well.
