In loving memory, we share these things about her life, which was always centered around faith and family as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Martha was born April 2nd, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles Arel Hutson, her parents, Guy and Nellie Brown, and her brother, Tommy.
Martha grew up in Shiloh, Tennessee where she enjoyed school and excelled at basketball. It was in these early years that she learned her lifelong passion for gardening, and growing flowers. After high school she moved to Corinth, Mississippi where she worked in the local hospital. While living in Corinth Martha met and married Charlie. They spent the early years of their life together there in Corinth, growing their family, before transitioning to Memphis for Charlie’s career. In the years that followed, Martha remained steadfast in her faith, raising their children, with love and support for them and Charlie, helping establish a strong family foundation.
After Charlie’s retirement, he and Martha enjoyed a peaceful life living on the Tennessee river in Crump, Tennessee. They lived a full life entertaining family, fishing, and tending to their beautiful property of flower beds and vegetable gardens, in addition to traveling scenic destinations that often included the mountains, state parks, and other beautiful areas of the country.
Martha moved to Atoka, Tennessee in 2005 to be closer to her family. She continued to enjoy traveling with her children during this time, which always included seeing lifelong friends at her annual class reunions from her Shiloh days. Martha’s love for gardening and enjoying the outdoors never wavered. We will forever cherish memories of her relaxing on her patio with her two companion cats, Smith and Wesson, enjoying a soft breeze, and admiring her beautiful flowers.
